Powers of Government
Term | Definition |

Delegated Powers | Powers given only to the federal government. |
Reserved Powers | Powers given only to state governments |
Concurrent Powers | Powers shared by federal and state governments |
Denied Powers | Powers that no level of government is allowed to have in order to protect rights. |
Federal Supremacy | When federal and state law come into conflict, state law is struck down. |
Federalism | Division of power between the federal government and the states |
Elastic Clause | Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress any power needed to use their delegated powers. |
Necessary and Proper Clause | Another name for the Elastic Clause |
Implied Powers | Powers not specifically mentioned in the constitution |
