Powers of Government
| Term | Definition |

| Delegated Powers | Powers given only to the federal government. |
| Reserved Powers | Powers given only to state governments |
| Concurrent Powers | Powers shared by federal and state governments |
| Denied Powers | Powers that no level of government is allowed to have in order to protect rights. |
| Federal Supremacy | When federal and state law come into conflict, state law is struck down. |
| Federalism | Division of power between the federal government and the states |
| Elastic Clause | Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress any power needed to use their delegated powers. |
| Necessary and Proper Clause | Another name for the Elastic Clause |
| Implied Powers | Powers not specifically mentioned in the constitution |
