Buddhism

TermDefinition
The Buddha This means “Enlightened One” a title given to the Buddha by Siddhartha Guatama upon his attainment of enlightenment
Buddhism The religion based on the teachings of the Buddha.
Eightfold Path The eight steps that Buddha taught to escape the suffering in the world.
Enlightenment The state of awareness that Siddhartha achieved after meditation on how to escape the suffering of the world
Four Noble Truths The teachings of the Buddha about suffering in the world coming from desires.
Karma Cause and effect Is how good things happen to a person when they do good things and bad things happen to a person when they do bad things.
Siddhartha Guatama AKA The Buddha was a Nepalese prince who founded the religion of Buddhism based on his teachings in 500 BCE
Nontheism a religion that does not have the belief in a god or gods.
Nepal A present-day country in Northeastern Southasia (north of India) where Siddhartha Guatama was born and Buddhism was founded
