Conquistador | Spanish sons of aristocratic families. |
Viceroy | The Spanish kings representative |
Encomienda | Grants to settlers entitling them labor and taxes from the Indians. |
Peon | Indians who once worked for the Aztec and Inca nobles |
Northwest Passage | waterway through North America to Asia. |
Privateer | private ships authorized to attack enemy ships. |
Puritan | Protestants. Church of England believed the church did not go far enough in reforms. |
