| French Revolution | a period of major social upheaval, French citizens radically altered their political landscape, uprooting centuries-old institutions such as the monarchy and the feudal system |
| Russian Czars | emperor of Russia before 1917, the revolution |
| Russian Revolution | the peasants and working class people of Russia revolted against Tsar Nicholas II. They were led by Vladimir Lenin and a group of revolutionaries called the Bolsheviks. The new communist government created the country of the Soviet Union. |
| USSR | The Union of. Soviet Socialist Republics, The Soviet Union, was the first country to form a government based on the system known as Communism. It only existed from 1922 to 1991. |
