Jacksonian Democracy

QuestionAnswer
Henry Clay speaker of the House of Representatives, who promoted the Ameican System.
American System promoted a protective tariff, re-chartering the national bank, and building roads, canals and other things to improve transportation.
John C. Calhoun A southern politician, who supported the institution of slavery.
Missouri Compromise a political compromise which allowed slavery below 36 degrees north latitude, and free states above this line in the new Louisiana territory.
Andrew Jackson became the 7th president in 1828.
John Quincy Adams became the 6th president in 1824.
Jacksonian democracy this philosophy sought to give the common people a chance to particpate in government.
Trail of Tears a forced march of Cherokee Indians from Georgia to the Indian Territory.
John Tyler the 10th president of the United States. He became the president when President Harrison died just a month after he was in office.
demagogue a leader who makes use of popular prejudices, false claims and promises in order to gain power.
democrat a proponent of democracy, which means rule by the people.
