| Achieved status | a status that is earned |
| Master status | a status that has importance for social identity |
| Social Construction of Gender | Dynamic. Changing norms, cross-cultural comparisons, changing gender roles, such as relationship to paid employment; a changing economy, changes in labor supply and demand |
| Gender Nonconformity as Deviant | Social construction of gender is normative, nonconformity can be norm-breaking |
| Sex | biological and anatomical differences, especially based on reproductive organs and structures, distinguishing males from females |
| Gender | Socially formed traits of masculinity and femininity; presentation of self and social expectations |
