Appeals Courts to review decisions made in lower district courts.

Majority Opinion presents the views of the majority of the justices on a case.
Docket calendar
Circuit Courts a court that sits in more than one place in a judicial district.
Jurisdiction a court's authority to hear and decide cases.
Exclusive Jurisdiction that only these courts may hear and decide such case.
Original Jurisdiction the authority to hear cases for the first time.
Appellate Jurisdiction the authority of a court to hear a case appealed from a lower court.
Remand the case, that is, send the case back to the lower court to be tried again.
Subpoena a court order requiring someone to appear in court.
Brief a written document that explains one side's position on the case.
Dissenting Opinion a justice who disagrees with the majority's decision may write.
Precedent gives guidance to the other judges by offering a model upon who share their ideas about politics and justice.
Marbury v. Madison decided expanding the scope of the Supreme Court's original jurisdiction.
