TermDefinition
Political Party A group that shares similar political views and works together to recruit and nominate candidates to help them win elections.
Platform Statements describing a political party's view on major issues; the set of beliefs the party stands on and represents.
Conservative A belief that limited government is best, with little oversight of business, plus strong support for traditional lifestyle choices.
Liberal A belief that government action is the best way to achieve equal opportunity, protect civil rights, and help those in need.
Republican One of the two major parties in the American political process that is known to be more conservative.
Democrat One of the two parties in the American political process that is known to be more liberal.
Third Party A political party organized as opposition to the existing parties in a two-party system.
PACs (Political Action Committees) Special-interest groups- private organizations that spend huge sums of money in hopes of influencing an election.
Primary Election where parties nominate a candidate.
Officeholders Candidates who have won elections and serve in our government (like the mayor, governor, or president
Two-party System A political system with two major parties, more or less equal in strength.
Nominate Selecting or choosing a candidate.
Lobbying Trying to influence a legislator to introduce a bill or vote for, or against, a bill.
