Dynamics of Health Care Unit 2 test
Term | Definition |

Bachelors degree | A four year degree. |
Masters degree | An advanced 2-year program completed after attainment of a bachelors degree. |
Physical Therapist Assistant | Implements a patients treatment plan, works 1-on-1, helps them exercise, monitors, corrects and adds more challenging routes, can apply ice and heat. |
Music Therapist | A person who helps heal patients through the use of music. |
Surgical Technologist | Assists in operations under the supervision of surgeons or registered nurses, set up operating room, gets patients ready and takes patients to recovery room. |
Psychologist | (PsyD or PhD) cannot write prescriptions, usually conducts research or teaches. Tries to solve problems by talking and non-pharmaceutical methods. |
Psychiatrist | (MD) can write prescriptions, treats and studies mental health issues from a medical standpoint. |
Physicians | Are responsible for diagnosing and treating the patient. |
Dietician | An expert on diet and nutrition. |
Opthamologist | Physicians specializing in vision and eye care. Can prescribe medications. |
Optometrist | Primary eye care providers, not medical doctors, cannot prescribe medication, treat some disease and perform some eye surgeries. |
Therapeutic Services | Treatments provided to patients or animals. Maintain/improves their health over time. Physicians are included in these. |
Social Worker | Helps people with a variety of special problems and challenges in everyday life. |
Radiologic Technologist | Takes x-rays, CT's, and MRI's. |
Pharmacy Technician | Under the direction of licensed pharmacists, dispenses, distributes, and administers medications prescribed. |
Audiologist | One who studies and specializes in hearing. |
Phlebotomist | Specialist in drawing blood. |
Dental Assistant | Assists a dentist with dental procedures. |
Prosthetist/Orthotist | Tailor make artificial limbs/devices for missing limbs. |
Certified Nursing Assistant | Works under the supervision of a RN to provide basic patient care. |
Oncology Nurse | Takes care of patients with cancer. |
Cast Technician | Puts on, takes off and builds casts. |
Radiologist | A physician who uses imaging to look inside the body and figure out whats wrong. |
Doctorate (PhD) | The highest academic degree that can be earned at a graduate school, 2 years, 8 total (MD, DD, DC, DMD, DVM) |
Child Life Specialist | Trained professional who plans therapeutic activities for hospitalized children. |
Nursing Assistant (NA) | Works under the supervision of an RN or LPN; provide patient care such as bed making, baths, and feeding; takes and records vital signs. |
Audiometric Technician | Tests people's hearing. |
Transport Respiratory Therapist | Helps with breathing treatments and can put in IVs. |
Pharmacist | Specialist in preparing and dispensing drugs. |
Home Health Aid | Cares for elderly, disabled, and ill persons in their own homes, helping them live there instead of an home for older people. |

Speech Language Pathologist Assistant | Implement the plans developed by speech-language pathologists. |
Massage Therapist | An individual trained to use touch to provide relaxation, stress reduction, health promotion, pain management and injury recovery. |
Physical Therapist | Provides treatment to prevent disability or restore function though the use of exercise, heat, massage, or other techniques. |
Accreditation | School is recognized by an outside agency as having standards that qualify graduates for professional practices. |
Medical Assistant | Trained to carry out basic administrative and clinical tasks under the guidance of a health care provider. |
