TermDefinition
Culture This theme relates to people's or society's "way of life". It includes things like food, language, religion, clothing styles, and how they celebrate holidays.
Time, Continuity, and Change This theme relates to how things change and how they stay the same. An example would be how cell phone technology changes.
People, Places, and Environments This theme relates to things like locations, geography, and climate ("long term weather in a place"). An example would be the effect weather has on battles.
Individual Development and Identity This theme relates to how people change over time. An example would be studying why an artist changed their painting style over time.
Individuals, Groups, and Institutions This theme relates to people, groups in society, and formal organizations like schools and governments. An example would be studying a person's life history.
Power, Authority, and Governance This theme relates to how laws are passed, how governments are formed, and how governments conduct their business. An example would be studying how government was created in the 13 U.S. Colonies.
Production, Distribution, and Consumption This theme relates to how things are made, who buys them, and how customers get them. An example would be studying the history of how gaming consoles are designed and built.
Science, Technology, and Society This theme relates to how technology effects people's lives. An example would be studying the effect that cell phones have on society.
Global Connections This theme relates to the ways that people, countries, and governments interact with each other. An example would be studying peace talks that ended different wars.
Civic Ideals and Practices This theme relates to the way that citizens interact with their communities. An example would be studying the way that people vote - and how often they vote - in a city.
