Great white fleet 1. (1907)- As tensions continued to grow between the US and Japan (each side calling it a white or yellow peril) Roosevelt sent 16 battleships to Japan as a “training operation” to try to intimidate others 2. Alfred Mahan influenced TR to build fleet
