Astrolabe an instrument formerly used to make astronimical measurements, typically of the altitudes of celestial bodies, and in navigation for calculating latitude, before the development of the sextant
smallpox a disease that causes skin blisters and high fevers. Smallpox was the deadliest pox.
Christianity a religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. The American Indians had never heard of it; and it was very different from their beliefs
Caravel It was a newer type of boat, which sat higher on the water and could handle stormier seas. It was fast and easy to steer, originally designed by the Portugese.
