affirmative action | the encouragement of increased representation of women and minority-group members, especially in employment. |
amnesty | a general pardon for offenses, especially political offenses, against a government, often granted before any trial or conviction. |
anarchy | a state of society without government or law. |
aparthied | (in the Republic of South Africa) a rigid former policy of segregating and economically and politically oppressing the nonwhite population. |
asylum | a refuge granted an alien by a sovereign state on its own territory./a temporary refuge granted political offenders, especially in a foreign embassy. |
bipartisan | representing, characterized by, or including members from two parties or factions |
boycott | to combine in abstaining from, or preventing dealings with, as a means of intimidation or coercion |
bureaucracy | the body of officials and administrators, especially of a government or government department/a system of government in which most of the important decisions are made by state officials rather than by elected representatives |
