BORDERLANDS Lands located on or near a boundary.
CASH CROP n A plant grown to be sold rather than used by the farmer.
COLONY n A settlement ruled by a faraway country
ESTABLISHED CHURCH A religious institution officially recognized and supported by a government.
GOVERNOR n A public official who has authority over an area.
INDENTURED SERVANT n A person legally bound to work for someone for a set length of time.
INTERNECINE Involving struggle within one group or nation
LEGISLATURE A group of people responsible for making laws.
MISSION n A religious settlement built in a foreign land.
PILGRIM A person who travels to a place for religious reasons.
PLANTATION A large farm on which crops are raised
PROPRIETARY COLONY A colony officially granted to an owner who has full governing rights.
RAW MATERIAL A natural component used to manufacture something.
ROYAL COLONY n A colony established by a monarch.
SELF-GOVERNMENT Political independence or rule by common agreement.
SLAVERY n Holding people as property and forcing them to work without pay.
