Causes of Revolution

TermDefinition
Proclamation of 1763 This made it illegal for the colonists to move west of the Appalachian Mountains after the French and Indian War.
Quartering Act This Law required colonists to house British soldiers and feed them.
Stamp Act Tax placed on all paper materials.
Townshend Act Tax placed on glass, lead, tea. This tax was different because it was meant to be indirect.
Boston Massacre British Soldiers fired on a Colonist mob and killed some protesters. Soldiers were being teased.
Boston Tea Party A group of protesters (Sons of Liberty) protested a tax on tea by raiding a ship, and spilling tea into Boston Harbor.
Intolerable Acts Also called the Coercive Acts. In response to the Boston Tea Party the British government closed the port of Boston and imposed Military Rule in all of Massachusetts.
Lexington and Concord Lexington and Concord are two towns, in which the colonial militia and British Army exchanged gunfire. The first shots of the American Revolution.
Olive Branch Petition The First Continental Congress wrote this as the last attempt at peace with Britain
First Continental Congress leaders from the colonies met for the first time to discuss and figure out what to do about the deteriorating relationship with Britain
Second Continental Congress Delegates from the colonies met again. Created the Continental Army, and wrote the Declaration of Independence.
French and Indian War Also known as the Seven Years War. Britain and France fought a war over expanding into the Ohio River Valley, West of the Appalachian Mountains.
