| Pilgrim | A person who travels to a new place for religious reasons. |
| Separtist | Group of people from England who wanted to separate themselves from the Church of England. |
| Persecution | Unjust treatment of someone because of their beliefs. |
| Mayflower Compact | Plan of government written by the Pilgrims who sailed on the Mayflower. |
| Debtor | A person who owes money. |
| Proprietor | Owner |
| Plantation | A large farm with many workers (enslaved people) who live on the land they work. |
| Colony | A settlement far from the country that rules it. |
| New World | A name referring to North and South America. |
