three-fifths compromise

TermDefinition
Three-Fifths Compromise States can count their slaves as a part of their population. For every 5 slaves located in a state, 3 can be added to the state’s overall population. Slave owners will also have to pay taxes on 3 out of every 5 slaves.
Representatives Elected Members of Congress
Slave Trade Clause Congress states that the Slave Trade(importation of new slaves) will end in 1810. Congress given the power to place a tax new slave arrivals. Nothing in the Constitution is added that allows for slaves to legally “escape” to freedom
Compromise A deal between at least two opposing sides where both sides come into agreement on issue/issues.
