TermDefinition
Bail sum of money used as a security deposit.
Civil Liberties the freedoms we have to think and act without government interference or fear of unfair treatment.
Eminent Domain the right of the government to take private property—usually land—for public use.
Racial Profiling by law enforcement officers—-being singled out as suspects because of the way they look.
Poll Tax hey required voters to pay a sum of money before casting a ballot.
Indictment a formal change by a group of citizens.
Petition a formal request.
Censorship it cannot ban printed materials or films merely because they contain alarming or offensive ideas, and it also cannot censor information before it is published or broadcast.
Libel lies that are printed.
Slander lies are spoken.
Militia small, local army made up of volunteer soldiers.
Segregation the social separation of the races.
Affirmative Action programs to try to make up for past discrimination.
Discrimination unfair treatment based on prejudice against a certain group.
Due Process following established legal procedures.
Suffrage the right to vote.
