Virginia Regions and Waterways
| Term | Definition |

| Coastal Plain | Region of Virginia that borders the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Land is flat. Located East of the Fall Line. |
| Fall Line | Elevated land where waterfalls are present. Natural border between the Coastal Plain and Piedmont regions. |
| Piedmont | Name means "foot of the mountain". Land is lots of rolling hills. Located West of the Fall Line. |
| Blue Ridge Mountains | Oldest mountains in the world, rounded from weathering and erosion. |
| Valley and Ridge | Made of the wide land with tree lined mountain ridges on both sides. Home to the Great Valley and Shenandoah. |
| Appalachian Plateau | Elevated land that is flat on top. Only a small portion is in Virginia. Located in the Southwest part of the state. |
| Potomac River | Northern most river. Alexandria is located on this River. |
| Rappahannock River | Fredericksburg is located on this river. |
| York River | Shorter than the other three rivers. Yorktown is located on this river. |
| James River | Closest river to us in Norfolk. Richmond and Jamestown are both located on this river. |
