| Writ of Assistance | a general search warrant issued by superior provincial courts to assist the British government in enforcing trade and navigation laws. |
| Resolution | the act of solving (they went to court for resolution of the matter.) |
| Effigy | a sculpture or model of a person. |
| Boycott | withdraw from commercial or social relations with (a country, organization, or person) as a punishment or protest. |
| Repeal | the action of revoking or annulling a law or congressional act. |
| Rebellion | an act of violent or open resistance to an established government or ruler. |
| Propaganda | the dissemination of information—facts, arguments, rumors, half-truths, or lies—to influence public opinion. |
| Committee of correspondence | emergency provisional governments set up in the 13 American colonies in response to British policies leading up to the Revolutionary War |
| Minuteman | (in the period preceding and during the American Revolution) a member of a class of American militiamen who volunteered to be ready for service at a minute's notice. |
| Loyalist | a person who remains loyal to the established ruler or government, especially in the face of a revolt. |
| Patriot | a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors. |
| Petition | a formal written request, typically one signed by many people, appealing to authority with respect to a particular cause. |
| Preamble | the introductory part of a statute or deed, stating its purpose, aims, and justification. |
