Abolitionists

Abolition The act of trying to abolish (get rid of) slavery.
abolitionist Someone who tries to abolish slavery
Underground Railroad A network of routes created by abolitionists to help slaves escape to the North.
The Fugitive Slave Act A law passed in 1850 that required all American citizens to help catch runaway slaves.
reform (noun) a change (for the better)
arsenal a storage place for weapons
martyr a person who dies for a cause he believes in.
Constitutional Amendment a change to the Constitution
radical having extreme ideas that are not shared by most people
