What was the French and Indian War called in other places of the world? Seven Years War
What area did both the French and British want? Ohio River Valley region because of the fur.
Who won the French and Indian War? British
What land did the British get? Canada and all the land west to the Mississippi River.
Where did Georgia's border expand to? St. Mary's River to the south, Mississippi River to the west, land around Augusta to the north
Who issued the Proclamation of 1763? King George III
The Colonists could not settle west of what? Appalachian Mountains
Why was it issued? Make peace between Native Americans and the British.
Why did Georgia react differently than the other colonies? We were a young colony, and we had everything we needed from us being located on the coast with an area for trade. We had also got land from the Spanish causing us to expand our colony.
What was the Stamp Act? The 1st tax that was directly imposed on the colonists. A tax on paper goods like newspapers, licenses, and legal documents.

Not loyal colonists joined what group affiliated with the Sons of Liberty? Liberty Boys
What 3 Georgians attended the 2nd Continental Congress? Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall, George Walton
What is the Preamble? Introduction explaining the natural rights of all people.
What is the Grievance? A list of complaints the colonists had.
Button Gwinnett Merchant and plantation owner, Gwinnett county named after him, part of the creation of the Georgia Constitution of 1777, died in a duel with Lachlan Mclntosh.
Lyman Hall Hall county is named after him, was a doctor and a minister.
George Walton Walton county is named after him, most politically successful of the 3, Governor, elected to Congress, Chief Justice of GA Supreme Court, another term as Governor, U.S. Senator, and superior court judge
Loyalists "Tories", loyal to England, lived in the cities
Patriots "Whigs", wanted independence, lived in the country
Battle of Kettle Creek Began February 1779, British were attacked by the Patriot Militia led by Elijah Clarke and John Dooley
Austin Dabney Slave who served with Patriot Militia.
Siege of Savannah Began in October 1779, the French and Patriots were attempting to retake the city of Savannah, they did not get the city.
Count Casimir Pulaski Polish nobleman killed leading a charge, Pulaski county named after him
Sergeant William Jasper Killed while attacking a British position.
Articles of Confederation The 1st written constitution, was our constitution from 1776-1789, a good start but weak central government
Strengths declare war, coin money, establish post offices, send and recall ambassadors
Weaknesses each state had its own money, imposed taxes to fund the government, couldn't regulate trades between states, strong legislative branch with no executive branch or judicial branch
Three-fifths Compromise of 1787 Slaves would be counted as 3/5 of a person.
Bicameral Legislator 2 houses: The House of Representatives is based on population, the other house, the Senate, has equal representation- 2 people per state.
Abraham Baldwin created UGA and was its 1st president, served 5 terms as a U.S. Congressman and later 2 terms as a U.S. senator, died in 1807, changed his vote which later led to the Great Compromise
William Few judge, soldier, legislator, served as member of the State Legislature
