Sykes Picot Agreement | The 1916 secret agreement between Britain and France that divided up the Arab lands of Lebanon, Syria, southern Turkey, Palestine, Jordan, and Iraq. |
Zionism | A policy for establishing and developing a national homeland for Jews in Palestine. |

Sadam Hussein | This former leader of Iraq that invaded Kuwait in 1990 to gain popularity among Iraqi citizens. He was ousted by the United States and executed after being put on trial for genocide and other crimes. |

Gaza Strip | A territory along the Mediterranean Sea just northeast of the Sinai Peninsula; part of the land set aside for Palestinians under British and International mandates. An area of extreme poverty and conflict. |
