| natural resource | material found in nature that people can use |
| fossil fuel | fuel found in the earth that is made from the remains of plants or an animal from long ago |
| renewable resource | a resource that can be replaced |
| nonrenewable resource | a resource that cannot be replaced |
| pollution | to make soil, air, or water dirty |
| conserve | to use resources carefully so they are not wasted or destroyed |
| pesticide | chemical for killing insect pests |
| climate | the pattern of weather in a place over a long period of time |
| precipitation | the weather that falls to Earth as rain, snow, sleet, or hail |
| vegetation | a variety of plants and trees |
| habitat | a place where plants and animals live |
