What is a geographer? Vocabulary

Geography The study of the Earth, its features, and how people interact with it.
5 Themes of Geography The “big ideas” that helppeople understand geography.
Location One theme in geography that answers “Where is it?”
Place The theme in geography that answers “What is it like there?”
Physical Characteristics Describes the natural environment of a place.
Human Characteristics Human-made features of a place.
Human Environment Interactions The way people interact with and modify the environment.
Region An area with similar characteristics.
Movement The theme in geography that describes how and why people, things, and ideas move from place to place.
