Types of Government

TermDefinition
limited rulers and citizens must obey laws (loveable)
unlimited Ruler has power and individual rights do NOT exist. (unlimited)
Monarchy King or Queen has complete power. The next is leader is chosen by birth (inherited).
oligarchy a select few have power; usually a family
democracy rule by the people
Dictatorship one person has TOTAL control and controls all aspects of life
Communism citizens have few rights and control of government and economy is by the ruling party
Rule by One single ruler EX; North Korea
Rule by Few small group has power EX: Iran
Rule by Many people have power and is balanced with rulers
Ancient Greece foundation; first democracy
Roman Republic created the idea of people elect representatives who govern
