Primary Sources Firsthand pieces of evidence that existed during an historical event has happened
Secondary Source Descriptions of events that happen after an historical event has happened
Jamestown This is the 1st permanent English colony in the Americas
Powhatan Confederacy This was the native American empire made up of several tribes in present day Virginia
John Smith Jamestown is said to have survived because of the efforts of this person
Great Migration This is what the movement of 15,000 Puritans to Massachusetts from England was called
Headright A 50 acre land grant given to colonial settlers who paid their own way
Pocahontas This is the daughter of Chief Powhatan who married John Rolfe at Jamestown
Burgess This is an elected representative to an assembly in Virginia
Fundamental Orders of Connecticut This is the first written Constitution in America
Separatists Protestants who, during the 1600s, wanted to leave the Anglican Church in order to start their own churches
Dissent disagreement with or opposition to an opinion
Indentured servants Laborer who agreed to work without pay for a certain period of time in exchange for passage to America
Puritans Protestants who wanted to reform the Church of England during the 1600's
Pilgrims Separatists who journeyed to the colonies during the 1600s for a religious purpose
