Civic Literacy Module 6 Lesson 4 Key Terms

TermDefinition
Angel Island Immigration station for processing immigrants arriving on the west coast of the United States.
Ellis Island Immigration station for processing immigrants arriving on the east coast of the United States.
Immigration and Neutrality Act Determines the number of immigrants admitted yearly and manner in which they are processed (it has been changed over the years).
National Identity A sense of belonging that is connected to the culture, beliefs, and traditions of a country.
Quota System Sets the number of immigrants who could migrate to the United States from any given country as a percentage of that nationality’s population in the United States by a certain date; favored some nationalities over others.
Resident An individual who lives in a country legally.
