Term | Definition |

Ballot | A place on which people can cast votes. |
Candidate | An individual who enters an election to win a political office. |
Caucus | A meeting of members of a political party in which they select the candidate they want to run for the Presidency or another political office. |
Delegates | People who serve on behalf of their party; at the national convention, they help choose the Presidential candidate. |
Election | The process by which voters cast ballots for candidates and/or policies. |
Electoral College | Electoral delegates, chosen by the voters of each state, who vote for the President and Vice President; all but two states cast all of their electoral votes for the candidate who received the majority of the popular vote in that state. |
General Election | The process by which candidates are chosen for political offices. |
Hanging Chad | A piece of paper from a ballot which did not detach fully and thus means the votes on that ballot do not count. |
Primary Elections | Voters select the candidate they want to run in the general election. |
Voter Registration | Procedure by which individuals sign up to vote. |
