| Totalitarian | Government exercises absolute power on all aspects of life and takes away the rights of individual citizens. |
| Monarchy | Government where there is a king or queen. |
| Absolute Monarchy | Government where the king or queen have absolute power. |
| Limited Monarchy | Government where the king or queen's power is limited by a constitution or elected body. |
| Theocracy | Government that the religion is the acting government and God is the source of government authority. |
| Oligarchy | Government where only a few people rule the country. |
| Direct Democracy | A form of democracy in which all citizens vote on policies. |
| Representative Democracy | A form of democracy in which citizens vote for representatives to vote on policies in their place. |
| Immigration | People that leave their country to settle permanently in another. |
| Policy | Laws, regulations, procedures, or administrative actions that lawmakers make to address certain topics. |
| Legislation | Laws, regulations, procedures, or administrative actions that lawmakers make to address certain topics. |
| Executive Order | A declaration by the president or a governor which has the force of law but does not need Congress approval. |
| Political Party | A group of people who share the same political views. |
| Environmental Policy | A policy created by a government or corporation that is designed to reduce the harmful effects of humans on the environment. |
| Public Opinion | When a significant amount of the community shares a common view or belief surrounding a certain topic. |
| Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill | On April 20, 2010, a massive explosion on an oil rig, Deepwater Horizon caused the rig to sink off the coast of Louisiana, resulting in the largest oil spill in marine history. |
