Multiple-Tier Timelines
| Term | Definition |

| single-tier timeline | show events related to a specific topic or perspective |
| multiple-tier timeline | two or more rows of events, with each row representing a different topic or perspective |
| pattern | when events follow predictable, repeatable steps |
| theme | when events can be grouped based on similarities |
| cause and effect | when one event causes or influences another event to occur. |
| chronological order | the order in which events occurred |
| tier | a row, usually arranged as part of a series with one row, or tier, above another |
