TermDefinition
Scale the area of the world being studied
Scale of Analysis Used as a framework for understanding how events and processes influence one another. Could be global, national, local, etc
Region An area on Earth’s surface with certain characteristics that make it distinct from other areas.
Formal/Uniform Region A type of region that has one or more shared traits
Functional/Nodal Region A type of region that is organized by its function around a focal points, or the center of an interest or activity
Node focal point of a functional region
Suburbs residential areas surrounding the city
Perceptual/Vernacular Region A type of region that reflects people’s feelings and attitudes about a place
