Core Values of Planning | 1. Planners are required to present all, particularly least empowered. 2. Work toward social justice, provide choice and opportunity for everyone. 3. Promote racial and economic integration. 4. Acknowledge those who have been historically disadvantaged. |
Equity | Being fair or impartial. Could mean improving distribution of funding or ensuring equal access to public resources. |
Diversity | valuing and including different perspectives. Factoring in varying values and preference is in addition to considering race, income, culture and ability is difficult but should be considered. |
Inclusion | Allowing people to participate in the process. Truly listen. Understanding that every choice counts and incorporate a robust, open and diverse community process. |
Planning for Diverse Communities | Expand economic opportunities (street vending, food trucks, home based businesses; activate mobility (transportation costs and affordability), housing options (accessory buildings, incremental housing), placemaking (arts and crafts vendors, art walls) |
Cultural Competencies | Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations such as inserting policies and procedures that integrate cultural competencies into each core function) hiring a diverse workforce, providing fiscal support, community engagement) |
