| globe | a round model of the Earth showing where water, land, and countries are located |
| grid system | a system that helps describe the absolute location on a map using grid lines and coordinates |
| historical maps | maps that were were drawn or printed in the past and are used to show geographical ideas of the times and places in which they were produced |
| legend or key | explains what the symbols and colors on a map represent |
| political map | a map that shows the borders of regions, countries, states, and cities |
| population map | a map used to show the overall distribution of the population within a particular area or region |
| physical map | a map that shows the natural features of an area |
| relative location | describes the location of a place relative to, or compared to, something else |
