TermDefinition
Turning Point A major event, idea, or historical development that brings about significant change. It can be local, regional, national, or global.
Cause Refers to something that contributes to the occurrence of an event, the rise of an idea, or the bringing about of a development.
Effect Refers to what happens as a consequence (result, impact, outcome) of an event, an idea, or a development.
Enduring Issue a challenge or problem that has been debated or discussed across time.
Reliability refers to how accurate and useful a source is for a specific purpose.
Geographer An individual who studies people, their environments, and their resources.
Cultural Diffusion The spread of ideas, customs, and technologies from one group to another.
Heliocentric Model The idea that the sun is at the center of our solar system, and the planets revolve around it.
Civilization A community characterized by elements such as a system of writing, development of social classes, and cities.
Nomad A person who wanders from place to place in search of food.
Filial Piety The respect for one’s elders.
Five Relationships Ruler to ruled, husband to wife, father to son, older brother to younger brother, and friend to friend.
Triangular Trade The exchange of goods between Europe, South America, and North America.
Similarity Tells how something is alike or the same as something else.
Difference Tells how something is not alike or not the same as something else.
Audience Refers to the group for whom a given document or source was produced or intended.
Historical Circumstance people and situations that were in existence/ occuring at a particular time in history.
Point of View the opinion of the author of the document.
Purpose the reason a record, document, or source was produced.

Chivalry The code of conduct followed by knights during the Middle Ages.
Nationalism a strong feeling of pride and devotion to one’s country.
95 Theses A list of arguments against the Roman Catholic Church.
Natural Rights Rights that belong to all humans from birth (life, liberty and property).
Manor during the Middle Ages in Europe, a lord’s estate, which included one or more villages and the surrounding lands.
Westernization Process of adopting western ways (policy used by Peter the Great).
Polytheistic The belief in many gods.
Feudalism System of government in which local lords control their lands but owe military service and other support to a greater lord.
Hellenistic Civilization a merging of Greek, Persian, Egyptian, and Indian civilizations.
Trans-Saharan Trade A series of trade routes across the northern African desert that consisted of salt and gold.
