Buddhism A religion founded by Siddhartha Gautama in India in the 500s B.C. that believes in avoiding violence
Caste System An inherited social class of traditional Hindu separating people from other classes by birth, wealth or occupation
Developed Country Richer country with advanced economy, industrialization, technology
Developing Country Poorer country with less advanced economy, industrialization, technology
Dynasty A family if rulers
Gandhi Leader of India through non-violent independence movement
Hinduism A major polytheistic religion of the Indian subcontinent believing in reincarnation, a caste system, and avoiding violence
Monsoon A seasonal wind that blows across continent and brings about great amounts of rain
Non-violent Protest A peaceful way to solve problems
Polytheism Belief in more than one god
Population Density The average number of people who live in a unit of area such as a square mile-- measures how crowded an area is
Reincarnation Hindu belief, that after death, the soul is reborn into a new body
Silk Road 4,000 mile long ancient trade route that linked East Asia with the Mediterranean
Subcontinent Large landmass that is a part of a continent but has its own geographic identity (India)
