Berlin Blockade/Airlift Allies flew in supplies for West Berlin. Used planes so they wouldn’t need force. Also called “Operation Vittles.”
NATO North Atlantic Treaty Organization Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, 1952: Greece and Turkey, 1955: West Germany, 1983: Spain
Warsaw Pact a mutual defense organization that put the Soviets in command of the U. S. S. R., Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia ,East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania
Hungarian Uprising Students and workers of Budapest went on strike. Created a list of demands called “The 16 Points.” Demanded more food, freedom, removal of Secret Police, etc.
Korean War Between North and South Korea. U.S. supplied military forces. Outcome was that they divided into North and South Korea.
Sputnik The name of the first satellite that was launched into space. Launched by Russians.
Space Race Began in 1955. A competition between Russia and the U.S. to see who was “better.”
SALT I & II Name for Strategic Arms Limitation. Was signed by President Nixon (U.S.) and Leonid Brezhnez (leader of the Soviet Union).
Vietnam War Fought between North Vietnam and the government of South Vietnam.

Detente- French for “release tension.” The name for the time period that the relations between the U.S. and Soviet Union improved.

August Coup A group of conservitive leaders arrested Gorbachev. Tried to take power but FAILED.
German Reunification- Wanted Berlin Wall to fall. It fell on Nov, 9th. Christan Democrats won East Germany's first free elections (1990).
