My World Ch 11 Vocab Texas Government

QuestionAnswer
citizen A member of a city, county, state, or town, who has legal rights and responsibilities.
municipal "of a city"
executive branch The branch of government that enforces laws.
veto To refuse to sign a bill into law.
legislative branch The branch of government that makes laws.
judicial branch The branch of government made up of courts and judges that make sure that state and national laws are applied fairly and correctly.
constitutional republic A form of government in which representatives get their authority from the people, serve an established amount of time, and have sworn to uphold the United States Constitution.
duty Something that you must do.
jury A group of people who listen to evidence and decide the outcome of a trial.
responsibility Something that a person should do.
volunteer To give of one's time.
political party An organized group of people who share similar ideas about how to run a government.
petition An official request to the government signed by many citizens.
county One of the sections into which a state is divided.
