What is a Kayak? a small skin-covered canoe large enough for only one passenger
What is an Igloo? a small dwelling that is often shaped like a dome and is built of hard snow
What is a Lei? in Hawaii, a garland of flowers generally worn around the neck
What is a Luau? a Hawaiian -style dinner with performances by singers and dancers
What is Heritage? what is handed on to people from the past, such as beliefs and customs
What is a Freeway? an express highway with limited entrances and exists on which no toll is charged
What is a Fourty-Niner? one of the first miners of the California Gold Rush
What are Mass Transits? a system of subways, buses, and commuter trains used to transport large numbers of people
What is Labor Force? a supply of workers
what is a settlement house? a community center for poor immigrants to the United States
what is the homestead act? a law passed in 1862 giving 160 acres of land on the Midwestern plains to any adult willing to live on and farm it for five years
