| classical civilization | an advanced state of development in human society, marked by progress in the arts and sciences and the use of record keeping. |
| Confucianism | An ancient Chinese belief system that focuses on living a peaceful life. |
| Dao | Concept of Chinese philosophy meaning proper way, path or course. |
| Dynasty | a line of rulers who belong to the same family. |
| Filial Piety | Family members placed the needs and desires of the head of the before their own. |
| Golden Age | A period of peace, prosperity and cultural achievements. |
| Ideograph | A kind of character in Chinese writing that joins two or more pictographs to represents an idea. |
| Legalism | A philosophy was developed by a scholar named Hanfeizi taught people that humans were naturally evil. People needed strict laws and harsh punishments. This is also known as the School of Law. |
| Mandate of Heaven | A heavenly law that gave the Zhou King the power to rule. |
