What is Equal Representation? Everybody got the same vote=U.S. Senate (i.e. 2 state senators)=100.
What is Proportional Representation? Everybody got different votes=U.S. House of Representatives.
What are Constituents? Serve all people (Not people who voted for you).
What is the shared powers of congress? 1. Tax. 2. Coin Money. 3. Declare War. 4. Regulate Foreign and Interstate Commerce.
Where do bills originate. Can originate in both houses.
What is Appropriations? $ Spending Bills/Laws = HoR
What is an author of a bill? Someone/group who wrote bill, Cosponsor=2 People.
What is the required votes for a bill to pass in both houses? 2/3 = House of Representatives=290 to vote yes, Senate=67 to vote yes.
What happens when you edit a bill? Backtrack to other house to approve?
How is a bill destroyed/kill? No 2/3 in any house.
What is it called when a bill came back? Reintroduction=Reintroduce Again.
What happens after both houses pass the bill? Moves to President.
What is innaction? Bill sits on president desk for 10 days = Inaction.
How do presidents decide to veto/approve a bill? 1. Weigh Ethics. 2. Party members (For or against).
How can a president be overturned? Presidential veto = 2/3 vote (Both houses).
How can a State Executive order be overturned? Federal Executive Order.
What is the only branch elected directly by the people? Congress.
Who can overturn and executive order? Not the senate, Judicial Branch can overturn.
How does the Judicial Branch tie in with the other branches? Appealed by president, check by legislative branch.
Is the president directly elected? Elected by electors from each state, people indirectly.
What are given to the president? 1. Medical Care 2. Secret Service = Protection for life = First lady, President, Presidents Children.
What is the main idea of the branches? Checks and Balances.
What is a veto? Policy of inaction=10 days no action.
