secede to withdraw from a nation or state to be independent
blockade when ships are blocked from entering or leaving a port
sharecropper farmers that did not own their land but shared someone else’s to grow their crops
Juneteenth the celebration of the day that the last of the slaves in Texas found out the war was over and they were free
