What would the girls and boys play with? Girls would play with dolls made from corn husk and scraps of cloth, while the boys might build small houses from corn cobs, and spinning tops would be made from leftover wood and string.

What would boys who learned a trade become? Boys who would learn a trade became an apprentice and would live with the master artisan while learning the trade.

What happened to the to the wealthy? The born to the wealthy, generally stayed wealthy.
What did those born poor have? Those born poor had very few opportunities to improve their status.
In colonial America, while there were class distinctions, there tended to be more what? In colonial America, while there were class distinctions, there tended to be more social equality among white settlers, and opportunities to improve one's status.
The experience of colonists in America's depended not just on what? The experience of colonists in America's depended not just on gender as we have already seen, but also on their social status.
Social status or hierarchy is a system of what? Social status or hierarchy is a system of social organization in which some individuals are thought of as higher in status and often have more power, wealth, and standard of living than those in lower "ranks."
How were colonists ranked? Colonists were ranked based on their financial capacity (wealth), their jobs and/or land ownership.
One's social class determined what? One's social class determined political and legal rights, personal attire (clothing), even church seating.
What were the four main social classes in colonial America? In colonial America there were four main social classes: Gentry (wealthy), Middle class, Lower class (poor), and indentured servants and slaves.
