Amendments 11-27

Constitutional Amendments

TermDefinition
11th Amendment No Lawsuits Against States: restricts the ability of individuals to bring suit against states of which they are not citizens in federal court
12th Amendment Separate Votes for President and Vice President from each Elector in the Electoral College.
13th Amendment Abolishes Slavery.
14th Amendment Granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States and guarantees all citizens “equal protection of the laws.”
15th Amendment Former Male Slaves Have the Right to Vote.
16th Amendment Congress Shall Have the Power to Lay and Collect Taxes on Income.
17th Amendment Direct Election of Senators by the voters of the States.
18th Amendment Prohibition: Prohibited “the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors”
19th Amendment Granted Women the Right to Vote.
20th Amendment Moved the beginning and ending of the terms of the president and vice president from March 4 to January 20, and of members of Congress from March 4 to January 3. Known as the Lame Duck Amendment.
21st Amendment Repealed the 18th Amendment Ending Prohibition.
22nd Amendment Limits the President to 2 terms in Office.
23rd Amendment Allows D.C to have 3 Electoral Votes in Presidential Elections.
24th Amendment Ends Poll Taxes as a requirement to vote.
25th Amendment Provides for the procedures for replacing the president or vice president in the event of death, removal, resignation, or incapacitation
26th Amendment Lowers the Voting Age From 21-18.
27th Amendment Prohibits any law that increases or decreases the salary of members of Congress from taking effect until after the next election of the House of Representatives has occurred
