How did the DeLome Letter help start the Spainish American War? A letter was written from the Spainish minister to the USA making unfavorable comments making it harder for the US
How did the sinking of the Maine help start the Spainish American War? Us thought the Spainish blew up the Maine a ship, and it just happened to accidently blow up.

Define imperialism The policy of expanding a nations power by foreign aqusitions(Taking over)
How did the US govern Hawaii? Made it a territory in the 1900's
How did the US govern Phillipines? in 1916, the Jones Act would promise the Phillipines independence, but they didn't get it till 1946
How did the US govern Puerto Rico? The Foracker Act of 1900 provided for puerto rican legislature elected by the people with government and council elected byt the Prez.
How did the Us govern Cuba? US troops remained in Cuba until 1902
What was the Roosevelt Corollary? reinforced the Monroe Doctrine required that the US step in and take power
What is "Dollar Diplomacy"? It meant that US could help maintain ordely society's in other countries by increasing American investment in foreign economics.
What is nationalsim? Belief that your country should come in front of the world.
Militarism? armies grow and become the main tool of diplomacy
What were alliances? fear of attack that led many nations to sign alliance.
What countries were the triple Entente? France, Great Britian, and Russia
Who were the Central powers or "Bad Guys"? Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgarie, and the Ottoman Empire
What was Germany's Schlieffen Plan? To hold Russia at bay then to march through Belgium to France and then attack Russia at full force.
What was "NO man's land'? The name of the land in between. Belgium falls so Britian and France dive in Them and Germany dig trenches
What was the Eastern Front? Russia vs. Germany
What was the Italian front? Austria Hungary vs. Italy
Why did we want to stay Neutral to the war? we didnt want get involved b/c it didnt concern us. Plus, people object for joing b/c of culture and ethinic rteasons and passifists (people who dont like violence)
What were the 2 reasons why we decided to go to war? 1. To ensure the allies would pay us. 2.Their warfare would protect our ships from German subs.
What were German U-boats? submarines that countered British blockades and killed 75,000 lives
What was the Zimmerman telegraph? a telegraph from Germany to Mexico intercepted in 1917

How long was training for the war? 9 months with out real guns
What happened to women? couldnt enlist but were often nurses
What was the Convoy system? Merchant ships traveling a group of protective destroyers and cruisers
What were the weapons? combat subs, airplanes, subchasers and mines
WHo wanted the US tropos to be in US control once in Europe? John Pershing
What was the Treaty of Versailles? Germany placed ALL blaim on itself.
What was Point 14? called for a league of nations, only allied countires were allowed to accept defeated nations weren't included...USA does not join
What was the outcome of the war? the league goes on w/out the USA and Wilson has a stroke during the campaign
What was the legacy of the war? That it led to WW2
