How was the religion of the Israelites different from the religion of their neighbors? The Israelites believed that there is only one God, and each person is created in God's image. Their neighbors worshiped many gods..
How was the Israelites' idea about ethics related to their ideas about God? They believed that God called on them to act ethically.
What was the covenant between God and Abraham? Abraham would obey God and travel to the land of Canaan, which God would give to Abraham and his descendants. God would be their God for all ages.
Why does the Torah contain many references to herding? The Torah reflects the way of life of Abraham and his descendants.
Why is the Torah important to Judaism? The Torah contains the story of the origin of Judaism.
Why did the Egyptians enslave and mistreat the Israelites? They became mistrustful of the Israelites.
What happened to the Israelites in the desert? They lived there for 40 years, received God's instructions, created religious objects, battled other peoples, and came to believe that God would provide for them.
Why did Moses not enter the Promised Land? He dies first.
Why was Joshua qualified to lead the Israelites after Moses? He commanded the Israelites when they were attacked just after leaving Egypt.
How did the Israelites keep their identity? They always returned to the Torah and their belief in only one God.
What do Jews believe about personal responsibility? They believe that every individual has the responsibility to do what is right.
How was Moses important to the development of the Jewish religion? Moses rescued the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, presented them with the Ten Commandments, and led them towards the Promised Land.
What did the Israelites do after they reached Canaan? They conquered those that already lived there. Then they settled on the land.
