The Phonenicians

Who were the Phoenicians? They developed from earlier Canaanites. they were fearless sailors who dominated trade throughout the Mediterranean region.
How did geography influence Phoenician's development? Heavily forested mountains left little land for farming, so the Phoenicians were forced to take to the sea.
How do Phoenicia's export demonstrate that they made use of the resources they had? They had a lot of forest. so they exported logs. They also exported products from the sea, such as fish and a cloth dyed with a rare purple dye made from sea snails.
Why did the Phoenicians trade? They had few natural resources of their own.
Where were most Phoenician colonies located? Most Phoenician colonies were located on coastlines in the Western Mediterranean.
What methods did the Phoenicians use for navigation? They developed a thorough knowledge of wind patterns and ocean currents.
How did established colonies help the Phoenicians? Colonies gave Phoenicians a place to get supplies or to trade with other people.
Explain how the evolution of language impacted the number of people who could read and write in each of the societies - Phoenicians, Greek, and Roman. In each society, more and more people could read and write than in the last society because with each society, the alphabet and system of writing became easier to use.
