Urinary system pathologies.

| acute renal failure (ARF) | Sudden inability of the kidneys to excrete wastes, resulting from hemorrhage, trauma, burns, or severe infection |
| chronic kidney disease (CKD) | the progressive loss of renal function over months or years |
| end-stage renal disease (ESRD) | the final phase of chronic kidney disease- requiring dialysis or kidney transplant |
| nephrotic syndrome (nephrosis) | group of clinical signs and symptoms caused by excessive protein loss in urine |
| edema | swelling |
| hyperproteinuria | the presence of abnormally high concentrations of protein in the urine |
| hypoproteinemia | the presence of abnormally low concentrations of protein in the blood |
| hydronephrosis | abnormal condition of water in the kidney |
| nephritis | inflammation of the kidney |
| polycystic kidney disease (PKD) | inherited kidney disease characterized by presence of multiple cysts throughout kidney tissue; eventually destroys kidneys and results in kidney failure |
| renal colic | pain caused by a kidney stone |
| calculus | a stone- abnormal mineral deposit |
| -lithiasis | condition of stones (suffix) |
| cystalgia | pain in the bladder |
| cystocele | hernia of the bladder |
| interstitial cystitis | a chronic inflammation within the walls of the bladder |
| vesicovaginal fistula | an abnormal opening between the bladder and vagina |
| neurogenic bladder | a urinary problem caused by interference with the normal nerve pathways associated with urination |
| benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) | benign growth of cells within the prostate gland |
| prostatism | a disorder resulting from the compression or obstruction of the urethra due to benign prostatic hyperplasia |
| prostate cancer | cancer of the prostate gland, usually occurring in men middle-aged and older |
| urethrorrhea | abnormal discharge from the urethra |
| urethrostenosis | narrowing of the urethra |
| epispadias | congenital defect in which the urinary meatus is located on the upper surface of the penis for men and in the region of the clitoris for females |
| hypospadias | abnormal congenital opening of the male urethra on the undersurface of the penis or into vagina for females |
| urinary tract infection (UTI) | infection of one or more organs of the urinary tract |
| cystitis | inflammation of the bladder |
| Pylonephritis | infection of the kidneys |
