Thoracentesis the surgical puncture of the chest wall with a needle to obtain fluid from the pleural cavity
Thoracotomy incision into the chest cavity
Thoracoscopy visual examination of the chest via small incisions and use of an endoscope
Tonsillectomy surgical removal of the tonsils
Tracheostomy surgical creation of an opening into the trachea through the neck

T & A Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy (tonsils and adenoids removal surgery)
antitussive medication administered to prevent or relieve coughing
CPAP machine (continuous positive airway pressure) a non invasive ventilation device used in the treatment of sleep apnea, a face mask is connected to a pump that creates constant air pressure in the nasal passages, holding the airway open
nasal cannula (NC) an airway adjunct that consists of plastic tubing with two open prongs that are inserted into the patient's nostrils; provides low-flow oxygen when connected to an oxygen source.
rebreather mask allows the exhaled breath to be partially reused, delivering up to 60% oxygen
Non-rebreather mask allows higher levels of oxygen to be added to the air taken in by the patient
ventilator a mechanical device for artificial ventilation of the lungs that is used to replace or supplement the patient's natural breathing function
incentive spirometry (IS) medical procedure to encourage patients to breathe deeply by using a portable plastic device called a spirometer that gives visual feedback as the patient inhales forcefully
