| reincarnation | the process by which s soul is reborn continuously until it achieves a perfect understanding |
| karma | good or bad deeds performed by a person which is believed to determine his/her fate after rebirth |
| dharma | an individual's duty in life |
| brahman | a universal force |
| enlightenment | perfect wisdom is which one understands basic truths about the universe |
| caste system | 5 classes of people in the Hinduism social system |
| brahmins | members of the social class made up of priests |
| four noble truths | the essence of buddhas teachings (truth of suffering, truth of cause to suffering, truth of end to suffering, and truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering) |
| eightfold path | path to nirvana |
| nirvana | release from suffering achieved after enlightenment |
| filial piety | respect shown by children to their parents and elders |
| confucianism | a system of philosophical and ethical teachings founded by Confucius. |
| daoism | philosophy based on the ideas of the Chinese thinker Laozi who taught that people should be guided by a universal force called the Dao (way) |
| legalism | a Chinese political philosophy based on the idea that a highly effective and powerful government is key to social order. |
